October 20, 2009 – Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB) received a $5,000 grant from The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company of Marysville, Ohio. The grant will help support environmental education outreach programming and raise awareness about litter and solid waste, community improvement, recycling, and quality of life issues.

Since 2005, ScottsMiracle-Gro has been a major supporter of Keep America Beautiful and the Great American Cleanup. ScottsMiracle-Gro has also provided more than 50 grants to Keep America Beautiful affiliates to support the creation and maintenance of green spaces and community gardens. In 2009, ScottsMiracle-Gro, along with its partners Keep America Beautiful, the Garden Writers Association, Plant A Row for the Hungry, National Gardening Association and Franklin Park Conservatory, launched GroGood, a national program that encourages community gardening and the donation of extra produce to local food pantries.

“Whether it’s through the installation of green spaces and community gardens, or the removal of litter and graffiti, the efforts of Keep Ohio Beautiful help to enhance and improve our communities,” said Rich Shank, chief environmental officer for ScottsMiracle-Gro. “We are proud to be a partner with Keep America Beautiful and Keep Ohio Beautiful in support of environmental education and outreach.”

KOB supports and promotes all Keep America Beautiful (KAB) litter prevention, recycling, community improvement and beautification programs, as well as educational and public awareness campaigns. As the KAB state affiliate, KOB serves as Ohio’s umbrella organization to strengthen KAB affiliates that work at the grassroots level to improve the environment. KOB also works with local communities and various State Agencies to help them effectively combat the issue of excessive litter in the communities they serve.
